Nick Carraway is narrating the story from the future in the order of events it happened.In The Great Gatsby, the American Dream was presented as a corrupted version of what used to be a pure and honest ideal way to live.The idea that the American Dream was about the wealth and the possessions one had been ingrained, somehow, into the minds of Americans during the 1920’s.Next,​ ​Fitzgerald​ ​uses​ ​irony​ ​to​ ​continue​ ​showing​ ​corruptness​ ​of​ ​the​ ​american​ ​dream​ ​in​ ​the Great​ ​Gatsby.​ ​One​ ​piece​ ​of​ ​irony​ ​that​ ​is​ ​used​ ​is​ ​when​ ​Myrtle​ ​was​ ​spending​ ​the​ ​day​ ​with​ ​Tom and​ ​was​ ​acting​ ​like​ ​she​ ​had​ ​money.​ ​When​ ​Myrtle​ ​arrives​ ​to​ ​her​ ​and​ ​Tom's​ ​apartment​ ​she​ ​gathers up​ ​“her​ ​dog​ ​and​ ​her​ ​other​ ​purchases”.​ ​In​ ​reality​ ​none​ ​of​ ​these​ ​purchases​ ​are​ ​really​ ​hers.​ ​Myrtles desire​ ​for​ ​wealth​ ​shows​ ​how​ ​corrupt​ ​the​ ​american​ ​dream​ ​is​ ​because​ ​Myrtle​ ​is​ ​cheating​ ​on​ ​her husband​ ​and​ ​chasing​ ​after​ ​a​ ​married​ ​man​ ​all​ ​just​ ​for​ ​money​ ​and​ ​“happiness”.​ ​Another​ ​piece​ ​of irony​ ​Fitzgerald​ ​used​ ​to​ ​show​ ​corruptness​ ​in​ ​the​ ​american​ ​dream​ ​is​ ​when​ ​Gatsby​ ​first​ ​showed Daisy​ ​his​ ​house.​ ​When​ ​Gatsby​ ​was​ ​showing​ ​Daisy​ ​his​ ​house​ ​Daisy​ ​came​ ​across​ ​a​ ​picture​ ​of Gatsby​ ​on​ ​a​ ​yacht,​ ​and​ ​Daisy​ ​states​ ​“You​ ​never​ ​told​ ​me​ ​you​ ​had​ ​a​ ​pompadour-​ ​or​ ​a​ ​yacht”.​ ​It​ ​is ironic​ ​how​ ​Gatsby​ ​puts​ ​up​ ​old​ ​pictures​ ​of​ ​him​ ​with​ ​nice​ ​stuff​ ​like​ ​he​ ​is​ ​from​ ​old​ ​money​ ​but really​ ​Gatsby​ ​will​ ​always​ ​be​ ​from​ ​new​ ​money.​ ​And​ ​it​ ​shows​ ​corruption​ ​of​ ​the​ ​american​ ​dream by​ ​the​ ​way​ ​Gatsby​ ​completely​ ​changes​ ​his​ ​identity​ ​and​ ​spends​ ​his​ ​life​ ​trying​ ​to​ ​get​ ​Daisy​ ​back ​ ​with​ ​the​ ​use​ ​of​ ​money​ ​instead​ ​of​ ​true​ ​love.Lastly,​ ​Fitzgerald​ ​uses​ ​Juxtaposition​ ​to​ ​show​ ​corruption​ ​in​ ​the​ ​american​ ​dream.​ ​One piece​ ​of​ ​juxtaposition​ ​Fitzgerald​ ​uses​ ​is​ ​the​ ​day​ ​of​ ​Daisy's​ ​wedding.​ ​Right​ ​before​ ​the​ ​wedding started​ ​Daisy​ ​was​ ​found​ ​“lying​ ​on​ ​her​ ​bed​ ​as​ ​lovely​ ​as​ ​the​ ​June​ ​night​ ​in​ ​her​ ​flowered​ ​dress-​ ​and as​ ​drunk​ ​as​ ​a​ ​monkey”.​ ​This​ ​juxtaposition​ ​just​ ​shows​ ​how​ ​much​ ​Daisy​ ​did​ ​not​ ​want​ ​to​ ​marry Tom.​ ​Who​ ​would​ ​be​ ​drunk​ ​before​ ​their​ ​wedding​ ​even​ ​started?Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, a novel that would later become one of the best known pieces of classic literature in history.However, at the time of its publication, Gatsby was fairly unpopular ad the reviews were never consistent.You can test out of the first two years of college and save thousands off your degree.Anyone can earn credit-by-exam regardless of age or education level.A common misconception of the American Dream is that anyone has the potential acquire a fortune and reverse the past....
