In Task 1, candidates are asked to respond to a given problem with a letter requesting information or explaining a situation.

It is suggested that about 20 minutes is spent on Task 1, which requires candidates to write at least 150 words.

This task tests your ability to select and report the main features, to describe and compare data, identify significance and trends in factual information, or describe a process.

The purpose of this section is to help you with the Writing Task 1 of the IELTS General test.

In our video tutorials, we introduce you to the four modules of the IELTS exam – namely the Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.

We also make you aware of the exam style and pattern, the types of questions asked in each module, the number of questions associated with each module, and the marking scheme of the test.

In the Academic module of the written IELTS exam, there are 2 tasks.

In Task One, you, the candidate will have to describe a diagram, graph, process or chart, and in Task Two you respond to an argument and give your opinion, weighing up the pros and cons.

Any of these question types may appear in any of the four parts of the test.
